More than half of Americans are "concerned" about the significant impact AI will have on their work.

Almost two-thirds (62%) of Americans believe that the use of artificial intelligence in the workplace will have a "significant impact" on American workers within the next 20 years, and may cause many workers to "worry" about their future.

A report by Pew Research on April 20 found that 56% of the 11,004 adults surveyed in the United States said AI would have a significant impact on the U.S. economy as well, while another 22% believe AI will have a small impact on the economy.

Only 13% believe that "AI will help more than harm" American workers, while 32% believe the opposite. The remaining respondents predicted that "AI will help and harm American workers equally" (32%) or were unsure (22%).

Many survey respondents are concerned that AI-powered workplaces will lead to increased surveillance, data mishandling, and misinterpretation.

A majority of respondents (71%) said they do not agree with using AI to make final decisions in the hiring process.

Almost two-thirds said they would feel most annoyed by AI monitoring their every move, and about half cited the potential disappointment that may arise from AI tracking their hours worked and tasks completed at their desks.
